Artboard-61

Award-winning artist/scholar duo Mikael Owunna and Marques Redd (collectively, Rainbow Serpent) create pioneering work at the intersection of multimedia art, emerging technologies, and African cosmologies. They are breathing new life into pre-colonial African art, spirituality and culture with a dazzling array of emerging technologies, combining virtual reality, dance, performance, film, and wild new photography techniques.

Their work reframes our understanding of what it means to be black and queer – not marginalized or politicized, but powerful and divine.

We envision a visually stunning, colorful, new tech-forward film that interweaves their personal narratives – which include family rejection and the healing power of art – with their work. This is a deeply exciting collaboration, designed to spark multiple creative offspring like children’s shows, video games, and interactive VR exhibits, based on our collective IP.

Team Solani recently traveled to Pittsburgh for the opening of Rainbow Serpent’s exhibition, Myth-Science of the Gatekeepers (coming to the Smithsonian this summer!) and experienced the impact firsthand. There is nothing else quite like it, and the audience response makes it clear the work inspires and resonates.
